Ryan Gosling agreed to play Ken because Margot Robbie “bribed” him.
The 33-year-old actress created the Barbie movie and also played the lead part. She told 42-year-old Ryan that if he agreed to be in the movie, she would bring him a gift every day.
Also, Ryan was shocked by how many pink presents he got.
Margot explained: ‘I just bribed him really. That’s the basis of our relationship.’
She added to the New York Times: ‘“Just come do the Barbie movie, I’ll buy you a present every day”.’
Ryan chimed in: ‘There was suddenly this pink present from Barbie to Ken, every day, for a very long shoot.
‘It felt unsustainable. I thought this has to stop at some point. There were times on set where I got a puka shell necklace.
‘Thank you very much. You don’t have to keep doing this. I’m sure you have other things to do, like produce a movie and star in a movie, and run a company.
‘And produce other people’s films. You don’t have to keep concerning yourself with this.’
Ryan also recently said that his kids were not upset at all when he got the part of Ken.
Speaking to People, the actor said Amada, seven, and Esmeralda, eight – who he shares with long-time partner Eva Mendes – were ‘confused’ by why he wanted to play Ken.
‘My kids were my introduction to [Barbie],’ the A-lister began.
‘I think they’re confused as to why I would want to play Ken.
‘They have no use for Ken.’
But his kids were always there for him, and they even helped Ryan get ready for a big scene.
‘My kids were around for the months at home, as I was prepping for it,’ he added.
‘So they, inadvertently, were prepping for it too.
‘And they came to set that day and were a huge sense of support and doing it with me off-camera.’
