Social media users have reacted negatively to a sweet photo of Rebel Wilson cradling her newborn daughter.
The 42-year-old Pitch Perfect star gave birth to a daughter last year with fiancée Ramona Agruma via surrogate.
Rebel has embraced motherhood, frequently updating followers on social media as she and Ramona raise their daughter together.
Rebel, an Australian actor, has been’mum-shamed’ in the past, including for attending a gathering just days after her daughter was born.
Now the actress is under fire again, this time for the manner she held baby Royce in a picture.
The family is presently on a sun-kissed island vacation with pals, and Rebel took to Instagram to share a photo of herself holding up her daughter to the camera.
Some criticised Rebel for carrying Royce, whose face was obscured in the photo by a sunlight symbol, saying she was ‘holding that baby as if she finds it offensive.’
Another wrote in a comment section as per the Mail Online: ‘Has the nanny not shown her how to hold the baby yet because these look very awkward and I feel badly for that baby.
One joker asked why the star was ‘socially distancing her own baby,’ while another quipped it looked like how a person holds a baby when they’ve filled their nappy and you’re ready to hand them back to the parent.
Others, however, came to Rebel’s defense, with one urging readers to “leave the girl alone.”
‘Baby is being held securely, she was showing her [off] to the camera probably.’
Another said: ‘To publicly shame Rebel for the way she’s holding her daughter is shameful. She’s not hurting her, she’s not hanging her by a foot, she’s holding her securely maybe she was facing her baby out quickly for the photo.’
Others grumbled that they couldn’t see infant Royce’s face because Rebel, like many other famous mothers, avoids displaying her daughter’s face on social media in order to protect her.
Rebel did, however, offer supporters their first look of her daughter when she shared a beautiful video of the island where the family was vacationing.
The video starts with Rebel waiving and cradling her infant before zooming up to show the brilliant blue heavens, the ocean, and the small island in full.
Rebel and Ramona got engaged in February of this year after the actor proposed at Disneyland.
Rebel characterised Ramona as her “Disney princess” when she disclosed their relationship, so the proposal was appropriate.
Sharing an adorable selfie of the pair cosying up, with beaming smiles on their faces, Rebel wrote last year: ‘I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess 💗🌈💗 #loveislove.’
Rebel revealed the arrival of her Royce in November of last year, saying she was “forever grateful to everyone who has been involved.” (you know who you are).
‘This has been years in the making…but particularly wanted to thank my gorgeous surrogate who carried her and birthed her with such grace and care.
‘Thank you for helping me start my own family, it’s an amazing gift. The BEST gift!!’
