Richard Madeley made an unfortunate gaffe on Good Morning Britain when discussing his daughter Chloe’s ex-boyfriend James Haskell.
The 67-year-old TV host made the gaffe during a discussion on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, recalling the ex-rugby player’s appearance on the reality programme in 2019.
Richard commented to his co-host Susanna Reid: ‘It is early days, I remember when my son-in-law James Haskell was in the jungle doing really well and riding high in the polls and then he lost it.’
‘He got into a massive row in camp, blew his stack and that was that!’
The unintentional reference of James as his son-in-law comes after the 38-year-old and Chloe, 36, announced their divorce and the birth of their 15-month-old daughter Bodhi.
Chloe Finnigan, the daughter of broadcasters Richard and Judy Finnigan, and James both confirmed their breakup on Instagram.
They revealed they had ‘mutually decided to separate at the end of September 2023’.
‘We had not planned on releasing a statement at this time – certainly not while the television show was airing – but constant speculation about our marriage has, unfortunately, forced our hand,’ it continued.
‘Beyond this statement, we will not be speaking about this matter publicly, and we would request privacy at this time.
‘Our sole focus now is our beautiful daughter. We shall continue to co-parent with nothing but love.’
Alongside the statement James also typed: ‘It’s with a lot of sadness I write this post, but unfortunately, in the world we live in, it has to be done. My priority is my daughter’s and Chloe’s happiness and security. For that reason, I won’t be commenting any further.’
On December 16, 2018, the couple married in a small ceremony at a country church and welcomed their daughter Bodhi four years later.
On October 13, Chloe was seen out with her father Richard without her wedding band, while James was observed conversing with a lady outside the celebrity hotspot The Chiltern Firehouse.
Viewers claimed to discover cracks in their relationship during a recent episode of their reality show, when Chloe chastised James for tweeting photos with ‘ladies in thongs’ during an awkward scene.
He was then seen kissing a mystery woman farewell as he exited the London Palladium.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
