Ryan Grantham, the actor, has allegedly stated that he’regrets’ killing his mother and is being held in a prison hospital to undergo a course of counselling.
The 24-year-old actor plays Jeffery Augustine in The CW’s Riverdale, a small-town America drama starring Lili Reinhart, Cole Sprouse, KJ Apa, and Madeline Petsch.
According to reports, the actor is being kept in a guarded institution while he seeks professional therapy for his grief over the death of his mother, Barbara Waite.
Grantham was sentenced to life in prison in 2020 for his crime and will be ineligible for parole for the first 14 years of his term.
Grantham’s attorney, Chris Johnson, recently updated news outlets on his condition and provided a progress report from his time behind bars.
He told TMZ: ‘Mr. Grantham recently advised me that he’s doing well, getting the help he needs, and has gained some insight into what happened and why.
‘He regrets what he did to his mother.’
Previously, the legal expert expressed alarm about the likelihood of the renowned face obtaining a sentence that would require him to serve time in a high security jail.
He shared his worries over Grantham being ‘physically, psychologically and sexually intimidated’ because of his frail stature.
The American news outlet also stated that the actor was receiving counselling from the jail psychologist and was occasionally seeing a psychiatrist, according to direct sources.
Following his fears, Grantham’s attorney was able to get him moved, and officials opted to imprison the thriller actor at a jail hospital in British Columbia, Canada.
They also ruled that the Riverdale cast member will serve the balance of his time at the hospital.
Chris shared more details of Grantham’s current state of mind, saying: ‘He realizes that he has a lot of personal work to do, but he’s dedicating himself to that, so that he can hopefully be a mentally healthy and contributing member of society at some point in time in the future.’
