Salma Hayek may be one of Hollywood’s most gorgeous stars, and some may consider her untouchable. But she has clearly demonstrated that she is just like the rest of us with the most inexpensive hair hack we’ve ever seen.
Salma, 57, is one of today’s most open actors, renowned for revealing makeup-free photos and other real-life insights on social media, much to the joy of her admirers.
And now, in her most real-life moment yet, the Frida actress has uploaded a new Instagram video in which she gives the finest but most basic beauty advice ever: use mascara to your hair to conceal greys.
We assumed it was only us that did it in a hurry with our Benefit extending mascara, but evidently not.
Salma says in the video, while dressed in a dressing robe and having her hair and makeup done for a public appearance, that she frequently applies mascara to disguise and flatten her wiry grey hair.
However, while working with a hairdresser, she gives her 28 million followers a different tip for covering her greys.
Proudly sharing her basic mascara-based method, she says: ‘All the rebellious little ones that stick up not only go black but they stay flat.’
The latest video shows Salma’s hairdresser applying a spray she described as ‘hair makeup’ to the actress’s grey hair.
The Oscar-nominated actress specifies in the video that she doesn’t mind her grey hair but sometimes she’s expected to cover it up, noting: ‘I don’t mind it, but sometimes who I’m working with, they do mind.’
While speaking to the camera, her dressing robe comes open, revealing a slip that was blurred out before the video was uploaded.
However, Salma, ever the professional, seemed unconcerned about the malfunction, merely tugging the cloth back up before continuing to speak to the camera.
Salma’s 28.2 million Instagram followers loved her tip, but many also said she was ‘beautiful’ whether she had grey or black hair.

Echoing Giovanny’s sentiment, Luis Sanchez added: ‘I fall more and more in love with you each and every time.’

Even her celebrity friends couldn’t resist heaping praise on Salma, with Eva Mendes admiring: ‘So it’s official, right? You’re the most beautiful woman in the world ? Creo que si. Coño-que belleza! Wowwwwww x.’

Hayek has long embraced her greying hair, referring to it as ‘the white hair of wisdom’ in a 2020 post.
Salma provided another advice for greying hair on Instagram in 2023, with a series of pictures showing various quantities of white hair around her temples. She says in the caption that not wearing sunglasses on your head is an excellent technique to conceal signs of ageing in one’s hair.
Aside from mascara, Salma owes her young beauty to one thing: meditation.
She said of the practice: ‘I really believe it is. People say it’s exercising. I think it’s meditation.
‘You have to find your way. For me, exercising is hard,’ she continued to Entertainment Tonight.
‘It’s really, really difficult to have the discipline to do it. But meditation is a walk in the park, because it’s my own form of it.’
