Helen Skelton had an emotional weekend after quitting her work for the last time.
For the last year, the 40-year-old Strictly Come Dancing finalist has hosted her own Sunday morning programme on BBC Radio 5 Live.
She has, however, already chosen to say good-by in order to spend more time with her young children.
Keeping things real, Helen stated that she was having to balance the employment with her other presenting work and caring for three children as a single mother after her divorce from Richie Myler in April.
Speaking to her co-host Lloyd Griffith, she said today: ‘You’re emotional because I’m leaving.’
‘I am,’ Lloyd confessed.
Helen was then asked how she felt about leaving the show, and she battled to keep her cool.
As her voice cracked, she shared: ‘I am not alright about it but, you know, needs must. The juggle is real.
‘There is an eight-year-old with a sideline who needs me.’
Helen couldn’t help but cry as she conveyed her appreciation to her listeners at the end of the two-hour broadcast.
‘I’ve loved every minute of the past year,’ she said sweetly.
‘Thank you to all the team and thank you to all of you.
‘It’s hard to know what to say without getting emotional.’
Helen smiled as she walked out of the studio, greeting photographers.
The TV personality looked stylish in a trench coat and beige slacks, and she wore black sunglasses to protect her eyes.
Her coworkers had clearly rewarded her with a leaving present, since she was carrying a huge Fortnum & Mason gift bag on her arm.
Helen’s Radio 5 show is only one of several projects she’s worked on over the last year.
In addition to reaching the final of Strictly last year, the star anchors Morning Live, Countryfile, and recently collaborated with Dan Walker on a Channel 5 travel show.
In terms of her personal life, Helen is said to be back on the dating market after her ex-husband Richie, 33, departed their family home.
The sportsman is currently married to Stephanie Thirkill, with whom he has a baby daughter due in April 2023.
However, Helen was hesitant to put herself out there again, according to insiders.
‘Helen’s family and friends encouraged her to get back out there and she was happy to dip her toe back into the dating scene,’ a source told Closer Magazine.
The insider continued: ‘But she has had some wobbles and found herself feeling guilty. She’s concerned about who to let into her life and worried about being judged for any decisions she makes.
‘There have also been some people who have made comments about her not trying hard enough to make it work with Richie, and it’s made her think about her marriage and what went wrong.
‘Ultimately, she knows she tried everything she could, and once the trust was broken there was just no going back. But dating again has brought up some unexpected feelings that she’s been struggling with.’
