Vernon Kay has said he won’t be raising his children to live off his and wife Tess Daly’s fame.
The TV presenter, 48, has recently been filling in on This Morning during Holly Willoughby and Phil Schofield’s planned absence.
Meanwhile, Tess, 53, will be back in the ballroom for the upcoming 20th series of Strictly Come Dancing.
Speaking about how they have raised their two children – 17-year-old Phoebe and 13-year-old Amber – so far, they insist they’re making their children find their own way.
Vernon said: ‘We let them be independent when it comes to their futures because it’s important that you allow them to find themselves, which is character building and personality development.
‘Sometimes I think that the old silver spoon and life on a plate in front of them… I think that’s quite contradictory to how you want them to be.’
In an interview with MailOnline, Vernon described his and Tess’ respective childhoods as ‘hearty, wholesome’.
He continued: ‘I don’t disagree with anyone that does that by helping their kids, which is great, but I just think sometimes for us, personally, it’s whatever they’re into, they can go and discover themselves.’
Vernon and Tess tied the knot in 2003 and will be celebrating their 19th wedding anniversary just before Strictly comes back to the BBC.
Speaking about her time on Strictly, Vernon insisted that Tess will continue to present Strictly past its 30th, 40th, and possibly 50th anniversaries.
‘Strictly was probably one of the first shows to embrace two women as the main anchors of a huge Saturday night entertainment show,’ he told The Sun.
‘He continued: We’ve seen Ant and Dec for decades double-heading a show… As far as prime time entertainment shows go, Claudia and Tess broke the mould.’
Speaking of Strictly, it has been announced that the dancing competition will finally be heading back to Blackpool during the season after two years away.
Vernon has said that he’s ‘glued’ to the TV whenever Strictly is on: ‘I am glued, I am static on the sofa and watch every episode and if I’m out the house I watch it on my phone.’
