Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania garnered mixed reviews from reviewers, launching with a low Rotten Tomatoes score.
Paul Rudd reprises his role as Scott Lang in the latest installment of the Marvel Comic Universe.
Following the massive success of 2015’s Ant-Man and its sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, in 2018, Quantumania is due to hit theatres on February 17, over five years after its predecessor.
While Marvel fans have yet to view the latest MCU offering, it appears critics were generally dissatisfied.
Rotten Tomatoes compiled the reviews of 141 reviewers who saw Quantimania before its release, and the film received a 52% rating overall.
It is the second-lowest score ever given to a Marvel film, after only 2021’s Eternals, which scored 47% and is widely viewed as dismal among fans.
In terms of what reviewers are saying about Rudd’s latest picture, Rolling Stone said it made Eternals “appear gloriously airy by comparison,” citing how “heavy” the film seems without being “substantial.”

The Associated Press said Quantumania was “trying to be too many things,” while the Los Angeles Times dubbed it a “bore.”
Meanwhile, The Washington Post bemoaned the loss of the Ant-Man films’ “sprightly rhythm and lighter humour,” stating that it “succumbed to… turgid solemnity.”
But it’s not all bad news: several commentators lauded Kang the Conqueror’s portrayal as a “really formidable” adversary, worthy of the same degree of terror as Thanos himself.
Other publications praised the picture, with Entertainment Weekly calling it ‘fun’ and ‘bonkers,’ and Variety calling it ‘bedazzling, unrelenting, and numbing, then entertaining again just when you think you’ve had enough.’

Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe begins with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
In addition to Rudd, the third installment of the superhero movie sees Evangeline Lilly reprise her role as The Wasp, Michael Douglas as Dr Hank Pym, Michelle Pfieffer as Janet van Dyne, and even comic Bill Murray in a villain role.
Kang the Conqueror initially debuted as a conqueror of multiple worlds during the Multiversal War in the first season of Marvel spin-off Loki.
His character journey will continue in this chapter of the MCU via Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, which are set to hit theatres in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania is set for release on February 17, 2023.
