After being announced as the director of Scream 7, Christopher Landon has pledged to “do Wes Craven proud.”
When it was reported this week that another sequel to the slasher franchise was in the works, horror aficionados rejoiced.
Landon took over as director when Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who directed the previous two films, were removed.
He authored Freaky and Happy Death Day, as well as Disturbia and a number of Paranormal Activity flicks, so audiences are in very good hands.
Taking to Instagram to celebrate the news, he posted a photo of Ghostface with the caption: ‘Looks like 7 really is a lucky number. More to come…’
In a following post, Landon expressed gratitude to moviegoers who had supported the announcement of his arrival, promising to honour original filmmaker Wes Craven, who died in 2015.
Just a big, heart-felt thanks to all the #scream fans for welcoming me into the fold. Horror has been my passion all my life. I promise to do Wes, @TylerGillett and @BettinelliOlpin proud. And of course, a massive shout out to my friend and hero @kevwilliamson LET’S GO!!!!

Sam and Tara Carpenter – alias Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera – left Woodsboro for New York with their friends in the last film, while Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Kirby Reed returned.
There have been no additional information released about Scream 7, including which cast members may return.
Kevin Williamson, who has written or produced every installment of the movie thus far, has already spoken out regarding the franchise’s future, implying that it may go on indefinitely.
Aside than that, we wouldn’t mind at all.
Chatting to Collider ahead of the release of Scream 6, he said: ‘Now [I do think it can go on]. I’ve been proven wrong repeatedly.
‘Since this last one was such a pleasure… I also think one of the wonderful things about Scream is that there’s a different killer in every film.
‘There’s [Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, or Freddy Krueger], they don’t go away. And Ghostface changes with every movie, so we have an opportunity to change the motive, change the story, and we can always twist and turn it since it [the original Scream] was always meant to be a game-changer.’
