Even though we can’t think of anyone else to play Ken in the new Barbie movie, Ryan Gosling’s kids weren’t too happy about it.
In fact, they didn’t care at all when he got the lead part.
Greta Gerwig’s highly-anticipated live-action movie with Ryan and Margot Robbie is coming out next Friday.
Fans of Barbie get to see their favourite doll leave Barbie Land and go out into the real world, bringing Ken along for all the chaos that is sure to happen.
There’s no doubt that Ryan has been good at channelling his Kenergy while making the movie and promoting it, which makes him the right choice to play Ken.
He has said, though, that his kids have “no use” for Ken at home.
Speaking to People, the actor said Amada, seven, and Esmeralda, eight – who Ryan shares with long-time partner Eva Mendes – were ‘confused’ by why he wanted to play Ken.
‘My kids were my introduction to [Barbie],’ the 42-year-old began.
‘I think they’re confused as to why I would want to play Ken.
‘They have no use for Ken.’
But his kids were always there for him, and they even helped Ryan get ready for a big scene.
‘My kids were around for the months at home, as I was prepping for it,’ he added.
‘So they, inadvertently, were prepping for it too.

‘And they came to set that day and were a huge sense of support and doing it with me off-camera.’
Ryan told Entertainment Tonight before that his kids have already seen Barbie before anyone else, and we’re jel.
‘They’ve seen a lot [of] pieces of [the film], and helped me a lot with it. They were huge inspiration for me,’ he said sweetly.
Discussing whether they found his portrayal funny, the dad-of-two replied: ‘Yeah, unless it wasn’t. And then I worked on it.’
When Barbie comes out next week, we’ll not only get to see Ryan act, but also hear him sing on the music.
Yes, Ken can also sing and dance. As the doll sings a sad song, which movie fans have already seen in a preview clip, he lets out his feelings.
‘It doesn’t seem to matter what I do, I’m always number two,’ Ken sings.
‘No one knows how hard I try.’
‘Hey, check me out, I’m just Ken,’ he later adds, before ending the number by screaming: ‘I’ll see you on the Malibu beach!’
So, Barbie fans are obviously crazy, and we can’t wait for more…
