It’s not often you see a Grammy Award-winning global superstar performing outside a town hall but Ed Sheeran has proved he’s one of a kind.
The Shape of You hitmaker whipped out his guitar and launched into an impromptu at the council building in his hometown of Ipswich on Friday.
The 31-year-old, who has recently welcomed his second daughter with wife Cherry Seaborn, grew up in nearby Framlingham, where he owns a sprawling estate dubbed Sheeranville.
Crowds descended on the unlikely venue where Ed performed his hit song The A Team from his debut album.
Speaking to the audience, he said: ‘I’ve played so many shows here and have such love for this place – I’m so happy to be back here.’
According to a lucky onlooker, the Brit Award winner had been perusing the shelves in a local guitar shop, where he picked up the instrument he later performed with.
After wrapping up his open-air concert, he gifted the guitar to an aspiring 10-year-old musician, which wowed the audience member.
They told the Daily Mail: ‘Such a humble guy coming to Ipswich playing us some of his fantastic hits and ending it by giving his guitar to an up and coming 10-year-old guitarist in the audience. Wow. Thank you Ed.’
It’s not the first time in recent weeks the Bad Habits chart-topper has made a surprise appearance.

Earlier in October, Ed rocked up to an Oktoberfest event, clad in lederhosen and a traditional-style German hat, and sang hit single Perfect as well as a rendition of Everybody (Backstreet’s Back) by the Backstreet Boys.
He also got into the festival’s iconic spirit and could be seen drinking a stein of beer after his performance as he posed for selfies with fans.
Meanwhile, in Ibiza, he thrilled crowds at the lavish party at O Beach when he took to the stage.
At the Wayne Lineker-owned bar, he belted out iconic covers such as I Want It That Way and Sweet Caroline.
