During an emotional appearance on James Corden’s farewell Carpool Karaoke, Adele emotionally confessed that she is not ready to return to the United Kingdom.
The chat show host’s show will end after eight years this week, with the last episodes featuring a cast of celebrities.
The musician, 34, first appeared on the show in 2016, and the two quickly became great friends.
This time, they talked more about their bond, explaining how their families had grown especially close in recent years.
When asked what he will miss most about quitting his career, James, 44, said he ‘underestimated’ how many friends he would meet via work.
‘More than anything I’ll miss going into work every day with my friends,’ he said.
He then added he was ‘really going to miss Los Angeles’.
‘I love it here. It’s been a brilliant adventure,’ he explained.
‘But I’m just so certain that it’s time for us as a family, with people getting older and people that we miss, it’s time to go home.’
After James thanked the artist for driving him in on his final day, the couple grew tearful.
‘You are one of my best friends in the whole world and I’m going to miss you,’ she replied, as they both started crying.
‘And you are mine. I love you and we have had the best time here,’ he said.
Comforting Adele, James then said that their friendship, and that of their families’ had ‘nothing to do with distance’.
‘I’m just not ready to come back yet, otherwise I would come back with you,’ she said through tears.
James and his wife Julia Carey relocated to Los Angeles with their three children after being named The Late Late Show presenter in 2014.
Adele moved to the city in 2020, citing the high cost of real estate in London as one of the key reasons.
Adele told Vogue in 2021 that she and ex-husband Simon Konecki, as well as their son Angelo, migrated to enhance their quality of life.
In London, she explained that most of her time was ‘in a car or inside a building’ and that she wanted to live somewhere with ‘fresh air and somewhere I could see the sky’.
She also explained that ‘the kind of house I have in LA I could never afford in London’.
The Late Late Show with James Corden airs on CBS in the United States.
