Harrison Ford’s final appearance as Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise might have been and gone in the latest sequel trilogy… but is it really the end?
After witnessing the incredible technology used to de-age the acclaimed actor in the trailer for the fifth Indiana Jones movie, fans have begun speculating if a younger Han could show up in The Mandalorian.
With season 3 of the Disney Plus show with Pedro Pascal just a few months away, and given previous cameos by Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill, is it really beyond the realm of possibility?
In the trailer for Indy’s upcoming adventure – titled Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny – Harrison, 80, is joined by Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, 37, who plays his goddaughter Helena.
Set against the backdrop of the Space Race in 1969, the archaeologist begins to feel uneasy when the US government enlists the help of former World War II enemies in order to beat the Soviet Union.
At one point in the trailer, a younger Indiana is shown having a bag taken off his head, after being taken captive.
Fans couldn’t believe how flawless the de-aged Harrison looked, with one person tweeting: ‘De-aged Harrison Ford looking scary good in the #IndianaJones trailer.’
‘Oh my god! Young Indy in the new #IndianaJones trailer looks INSANE!’ another remarked.
Meanwhile, others thought that if the special effects to make Harrison look younger could be that good… then why not introduce his Han Solo back into Star Wars, considering the start of The Mandalorian is set just a few years after the 1983 film Return of the Jedi?
‘Considering the quality of this Indy deepfake, I’d say the chances of Han Solo showing up the in Mandoverse just went up,’ tweeted a YouTuber who goes by the name of Star Wars character Kyle Katarn.
‘If they do something like that, then they need it to be a reunion of Luke, Han and Leia. Make it be as emotional as possible. That is Star Wars at it’s best, when the fans feel that raw emotion. It’s something we somehow didn’t get in the Sequel Trilogy,’ someone else wrote.
However, others pointed out that Harrison was unlikely to ever agree to return to Star Wars, while also suggesting that Alden Ehrenreich could return as Han Solo instead, after playing the lead role in the 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story.
‘I just hope they have Alden Ehrenreich return as Han because I don’t want another De-aged, CGI character,’ one person tweeted.
‘Just bring back Alden, please Lucasfilm – Ford doesn’t want to be there and there are a plethora of reasons to not use the deepfake/de-age thing,’ another added.
The Mandalorian season 3 premieres on March 1 on Disney Plus.
