Sally Nugent burst out laughing after Jon Kay spotted his own doppelganger standing next to King Charles. The BBC Breakfast co-hosts couldn’t stop laughing over the uncanny resemblance as a man who looked the spitting image of Jon was seen during the monarch’s meeting with France’s President Emmanuel Macron. It meant the presenter had to jokingly dismiss rumours he had joined them at the Palace of Versailles in Paris.
‘It wasn’t me, I promise,’ he laughed as Sally giggled along with him. ‘I have had the weirdest weekend since this went out. I mean it really does look like me doesn’t it. It’s freaky.’
The footage came from a state banquet in the Hall of Mirrors, which saw King Charles and Queen Camilla appear as guests of honour.
After seeing the man serving the king his drink, Sally joked she’s wanting the same treatment from Jon on the morning show.
‘He even moves like you,’ she howled. ‘I expect this sort of service when I arrive at breakfast in the morning now look at this.’
Jon quipped: ‘Doesn’t just look like me. Nicks other people’s drinks like me.’
He admitted he received ‘loads’ of messages over the weekend from people convinced they’d spotted him at the banquet, and his co-host teased: ‘Are you sure you weren’t in Paris?’
‘I promise it wasn’t me, although some people thought it was some kind of green screen special effect,’ he revealed. ‘It wasn’t me, I promise.’
However, not everyone was convinced on social media as people were quick to point out the startling similarities between the two men, with one person taking to X – formerly Twitter and joking: ‘Uncanny- even the glasses look similar. Didn’t think the Beeb paid that badly? How is Jon’s French?’
‘If only this was held back to 1st April. This would have been a brilliant Fool’s day gag. That’s so funny,’ someone else wrote.
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.
