Big Brother is back on our screens, and if initial fan favourite Kerry Riches seemed familiar, it’s because she’s been on the show before.
The 40-year-old, who became an overnight celebrity after declaring her passion for sausages at the breakfast table, definitely has a natural talent to amuse on television, and it has previously served her well.
The NHS manager from Essex previously appeared on the game programme Deal or No Deal.
She walked out of the studio with an astounding £35,000 on her edition of the show, which was hosted by Noel Edmonds.
Her 2007 visit was especially notable for the odd conditions – the set was completely dark owing to a power outage. It was explained to the viewers that it was caused by someone cutting through a cable next door. Chaos!
Fortunately, they were able to turn the lights back on, allowing Kerry to triumph.
She entertained Noel, 74, with one-liners, including her admission that she is a risk-taker. What is her proof? She bravely travelled to the Maldives after seeing a few films on the sharks that inhabit there.
There are 26 sealed briefcases on Deal or No Deal, each holding between 1p and £1million.
Contestants must decide whether to accept a financial offer from ‘The Banker,’ whose identity is never revealed, in return for what is in the contestant’s chosen briefcase. They eliminate boxes without knowing what’s inside each round and then decide whether or not to accept the banker’s offer.
It’s a game of chance and strategy, and if you’ve never seen it before and this description piques your interest, you’re in luck: the series will be revived shortly, with Stephen Mulhern steering the ship.
Kerry performed admirably and sold her box, which contained just £500, for £35,000.
Kerry said in the emotional ending that it was more money than she’d ever had in her life. While Noel called it ‘one of the biggest achievements’ on the show.
She now has the ideal opportunity to win big again, since the prize pool for winning the BB championship is a massive £100,000.
Kerry, who has multiple sclerosis, portrayed herself as ‘a force to be reckoned with’ in her introduction video and stormed into the home shouting.
The Big Brother superfan seemed to be having a good time thus far, and was even picked most amusing by her housemate Noky Simbani.
Big Brother continues tomorrow at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
