Big Brother star Matty allegedly ‘baffled’ his fellow housemate Olivia when he spoke openly about his open relationship.
Matty, a 24-year-old Isle of Man doctor, was eager to educate Olivia, a 23-year-old Glaswegian dancer, about the realities of open partnerships.
He began by emphasising that he wasn’t in an open relationship with his lover purely as a manner of ‘preventing infidelity’.
‘It’s freedom to pursue other people instead of the preventative of cheating,’ he said.
‘Do you know what I’m trying to say? If you’ve never been exposed to it before, the only way that you can comprehend it is the prevention of cheating.’
‘How do you learn that?’, Olivia quizzed.
‘It’s not easy to learn,’ Matty confessed.
A stunned Olivia exclaimed: ‘It’s baffling me. How do you learn that?’
Matty proceeded to explain that accepting open relationships is about ‘rewiring your brain’ and ‘everything you were taught as a child.’
‘Do you know what else I find crazy, right?’, Olivia continued. ‘Is how openly you can talk about it.’
She went on to say that she finds it ‘incredible’ that Matty is so at ease with the issue.
He went on to say that he doesn’t want there to be a ‘taboo’ surrounding his romances, but he understands why others do.
Matty revealed that his open relationship is known to his parents.
‘And she’s like, “Have fun”?’, Olivia asked.
Matty replied: ‘They’re like, “Do whatever you want that makes you happy”.’
The doctor acknowledged that his parents have a very ‘forward way’ of thinking and he is ‘very lucky’ because both his and his partner’s families are ‘progressive.’
‘At the core of our relationship, we just want each other to be happy.’
Viewers have applauded the ITV relaunch of Big Brother for its conversations about sexuality and gender, as well as its diverse cast.
