Blackadder is one of the most well-known British comedy, having first shown in 1983.
It has now been announced that the comedy will return for a Comic Relief 2023 special, and we can’t wait to see what co-creator Richard Curtis has in store.
While discussing the impending Red Nose Day for Comic Relief with Gary Davies on BBC Radio 2 Breakfast, the host asked his guest, ‘What’s going on the telly show? ‘You were telling me about Blackadder?’
‘God, I’m very hesitant about saying this, but…,’ Richard answered before revealing some great news.
‘I think for the first time in 20 years, Baldrick is going to be giving some kind of performance. We’re just conspiring about it now, so I think there is going to be a marvellous, turnip-based thing with Tony Robinson now back in action, so I’m kind of excited about that,’ he shared.
He was then asked if Rowan Atkinson, who co-created Blackadder with him, will return.

‘No, Rowan’s far too serious to do any of that,’ he added with a laugh.
From 1983 through 1989, all episodes of Blackadder starred Rowan as the titular Edmund Blackadder and Tony Robinson as his dogsbody, Baldrick.
Tim McInnerny and Miranda Richardson starred in the show as well. It starred Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie and lasted 24 episodes, including three specials.
Stephen reprised his role as Lord Melchett for Children in Need and Comic Relief’s joint programme The Big Night In, which broadcast in support of individuals impacted by the Covid-19 outbreak, in 2020.
