The Chase has been on the air for 14 years, yet it still has the power to surprise host Bradley Walsh, as participant Janty did with the ultimate comeback.
On the ITV game show, we’ve seen it all: a man earning £1000 by passing on a question, as well as some very amusing questions on everything from old willies to Fanny Chmelar and Gritty Beaver.
Janty, who got a grand total of £0 in the cash-builder round, most recently astounded Bradley, 63. This is the segment of the programme in which participants must answer as many questions as they can in 60 seconds, with each correct answer worth £1000.
It was expected that owing to her poor performance, she would be eliminated from the competition quite fast. However, things took an unexpected turn.
In the following round, each competitor must select between a greater offer (closer to the chaser), their earned money (in Janty’s case, £0), and a lesser offer (far away from the chaser).
Janty accepted The Chaser Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan’s high offer of £40,000, which entailed properly answering six questions to have the money added to the communal reward fund.
With Jenny on her tail, there isn’t much room for error. It would all be over if she replied incorrectly twice and Jenny answered correctly.
Janty did the seemingly impossible and successfully earned the money, leaving Bradley stunned.
He ran off set with his arms in the air exclaiming: ‘I cannot believe that!’
He added: ‘Janty that was tremendous. That will go down for me in Chase history. That was absolutely thrilling. I loved every second of that.’
Viewers at home were equally impressed.
‘That’s the best comeback since Lazarus, Brad. Well done Janty. Played Jenny like a proper hustler,’ remarked one person.
India Willoughby added: ‘Incredible game by Janty! One of the greatest ever. She’s a hustler! #TheChase Boom!’

Janty was alone in the final round because her three teammates candidates had not made it through their respective one-on-one pursuits.
Unfortunately, her winning run came to an end, and she departed the programme with little more than the knowledge that she had delighted Bradley.
Janty properly answered only six questions, whereas Jenny had two minutes to answer the same number of questions.
The participants had the advantage of being able to ‘push back’ the Chaser if they get a question wrong and are able to respond properly, but this didn’t help.
