On tonight’s final semi-final round of Celebrity Masterchef, a few recognisable faces got heated and ruffled in the kitchen.
Next week, five amateur chefs will compete in the finals of the cheffing competition, which will be judged by John Torode and Gregg Wallace.
But, after Shazia Mirza was sent home last night, one unhappy comedian was sent packing today in a poor run for funny faces on the show.
Marcus Brigstocke, an actor and comedian, was fired last night after preparing a delicious lunch that featured raw park. Ouch.
Amy Walsh from Emmerdale, Luca Bish from Love Island, Jamelia from The Wanted, and presenter Wynne Evans are all through to the finals.
‘Devastated to be honest. Just dropped the ball. Big mistake that,’ said comic Marcus after being told his pork fillet wasn’t cooked.
‘I’ve had such a great experience,’ he stated as he bid farewell to the show. ‘I’m really proud of what I’ve accomplished.’
Tonight’s challenge was to prepare an airline travel fine dining lunch for the judges – and no, it’s not the usual small boxes of stale and soggy sorrow. We’re talking three-course debauchery.
Wynne impressed the judges with his land, sea, and air-inspired feast, which included wagyu beef steak, oysters in a Vietnamese sauce, and a cheesecake panacotta mash-up dessert.
‘Being a single dad I’ve devoted the last 10 years to bringing up my children,’ Wynne said of the competition, explaining why he’s doing Celebrity Masterchef for him.
Meanwhile, Amy went vintage with her spread, serving duck in an orange sauce with fondant potatoes, a chicken and mushroom main course and a salted butterscotch mousse dessert.
Greg stated that he would change planes in order to eat Amy’s cooking.
Luca from Love Island chose a ‘posh chicken’ – a.k.a. guineafowl – with little potatoes, while his dessert of mango and limoncello cheesecake was characterised as a ‘joy’.
Large prawn Thai green curry was on the menu for singer Max, who also prepared a cashew Asian salad and ice cream panacotta.
The judges think he should open his own ice cream shop because it was so wonderful.
Marcus faced tight competition, since the judges adored everything except his raw pork, which they couldn’t eat.
Marcus prepared a pork fillet packed with nduja, hazelnuts, and fennel for his last Celebrity Masterchef entrée, along with parmesan and sage gnocchi.
He ended the dinner with a macha tea swiss roll and raspberry sorbet.
Jamelia outdid herself with her salt fish pasta, garlic toast, and star anise-flavored cornmeal porridge.
Celebrities will travel to East Sussex for the finals next week to prepare a very special meal. They will even learn to forage and cook over an open fire.
Finals week starts next Tuesday (5th September) at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
