Claudia Winkleman quickly came to the rescue after The Traitors contestant Wilf Webster broke down in tears following his decision to banish fellow Traitor Amanda Lovett in tonight’s episode.
In truly shocking scenes, the senior fundraiser chose to betray Amanda at the roundtable in the ninth instalment of the intense BBC reality show, and his casting vote meant that she had been eliminated.
Wilf returned to the turret later that evening to meet with presenter Claudia, only to be wracked with guilt over his decision to get rid of his only ally.
‘Why did you decide to banish Amanda?’ Claudia asked.
‘I don’t trust her,’ Wilf replied. ‘I just kept thinking and thinking that I haven’t built any relationship with her.’

He then broke down in tears, leaving the presenter forced to step in and comfort him.
‘It’s okay,’ Claudia said. She then moved over towards Wilf to give him a hug. ‘Come on,’ she added. ‘Listen to me, Wil, you’re playing a blinder. You’ve come in here, right, to win the money.
‘I know you feel heartbroken, but you are smashing it, Wil.’
Claudia then delivered another plot twist that we weren’t expecting and told Wilf that she was giving him one final chance to recruit a Faithful to come and join him.

‘I imagine it’s really lonely being the only Traitor, so you have the last chance to recruit,’ she said.
Laying out her instructions, Claudia said that Wilf would have a secret face-to-face meeting with a contestant of his choice in an attempt to convert them to a Traitor.
‘You’ll give them an ultimatum,’ she said. ‘Either join you and become a Traitor or get murdered. If they choose to join you as a Traitor, then you will come back to this turret and murder as usual.’
Wilf was then put on the spot over who he would choose but ultimately decided to select Kieran.
Will Kieran accept his invitation?
The Traitors continues on Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One.
