Dan Walker has shared his concern for the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! stars as they leave the jungle.
Mike Tindall, Jill Scott, Charlene White and Matt Hancock have joined the likes of Boy George and Babatunde Aleshe, but so far, the former health secretary has been continuously voted in to do bushtucker trials.
As expected, Hancock’s arrival sent shockwaves into camp with Charlene being the first to grill the politician while 80s pop star Boy George tearfully considered leaving the show, following his mother’s hospitalisation with Covid during the pandemic.
Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk at the TV Choice Awards, Strictly Come Dancing star Dan shared: ‘I’m enjoying watching the madness.
‘I just hope that people don’t come out of it more damaged than when they went in.
‘There’s a lot of big egos in there, and some really lovely people in there too.
‘I just feel that, as much fun as it is to watch, I think it can be quite a mentally damaging situation to be in, under the microscope and to be judged that way, so I hope they’re all okay.’
He added that he hasn’t been voting this series, but is keen for someone else to take on the bushtucker trials after Hancock faced five in a row.
‘It’s getting a bit dull,’ Dan commented.
The former BBC breakfast host weighed in on the controversy when Hancock announced he was joining the show, saying that appearing on a reality show might not be the way to go.
‘I’ve thought about this overnight and it’s clear that a lot of people are finding it very difficult to watch Matt Hancock on #ImACeleb,’ he tweeted.
‘If he really wants to show viewers the human side of politicians, maybe he could leave the show & donate his £400,000 to the NHS.’
In a separate tweet, the Channel 5 host stressed that this ‘isn’t an anger thing.’
‘I like #ImACeleb & am happy for him to be on it but it seems many feel it it too raw and too soon – particularly when he’s a serving MP,’ he added.
‘If his motivation really is to show he’s a ‘normal human’ then he could send a powerful message.’
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
