The new Dancing on Ice competitor has been revealed for the next season.
Boxing superstar Ricky Hatton was the first celebrity revealed for the series’ upcoming season earlier this week.
Following that, anchors Holly Willoughby and Ben Shephard made another announcement on Wednesday’s broadcast of This Morning.
Claire Sweeney, a Coronation Street actress, is the latest celebrity to sign up to put on skates and hit the ice.
The 52-year-old actress presently portrays Cassie Plummer on Coronation Street, but she has also been on Brookside and in various theatre shows, including a West End run of Chicago.
Claire claimed she was ‘excited yet frightened’ about the impending challenge on ITV’s breakfast show.
Sharing how she travelled to Somerset House every Christmas with her son Jaxon, 9, the actress expressed excitement that taking part in the programme would mean she no longer needs to use the assistance penguins.
‘I’m starting at the bottom,’ she laughed.
‘This is a whole new genre…I am stepping into the unknown here,’ she added.
Claire stated that while she is an accomplished dancer, she does not feel it prepared her for skating.
However, after being forced to wear her boots about the home, she had to explain why to her son, who was then bound to silence.
‘I’ve been wearing my boots around the house… but I haven’t stepped on the ice yet.’
Claire then went on to express how happy her kid was to watch her participate on the show and how she was looking forward to getting ready for the performances.
The previous season’s judging panel included Jayne Torvill, Christopher Dean, Ashley Banjo, and Oti Mabuse.
Nile Wilson of the United Kingdom and his professional partner Olivia also won.
Dancing on Ice returns to ITV next year.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
