A humble businessman who was terrified to present his idea to the Dragons on Dragons’ Den has been hailed as a genius.
Attempting to win over the judges Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden, Sara Davies, Touker Suleyman, and Steven Bartlett, paper engineer David appeared on the latest episode of the BBC smash hit programme on Thursday.
The aspiring entrepreneur has created pop-up versions of many board games, including chess, and presented them to the judges in the hopes of receiving funding for his firm.
He went on to say that the pop-up chess set can be opened and closed in any orientation, and that its “unique” construction makes it “impossible to upset the pieces.”
David elaborated that the game was perfect for taking on the road because it collapsed down to bookcase size.
The entrepreneur persisted, mentioning the product’s eco-credentials, such as the fact that it was made without plastic and was “totally recyclable,” but ultimately failed to close the deal.
Sensing his discomfort, Deborah said: ‘Do you want to tell us how much you want and what percentage, and if you’re struggling why don’t we ask you questions?’
Stammering, David replied: ‘No, no, yeah, I want. I’m seeking 40%. I’m seeking £40,000 for 20% equity in my company. I’m really sorry for that.’
‘I feel like I let myself down a bit with that pitch,’ David said, with Peter Jones reassuring him it was just ‘nerves’

The presentation had little effect on the Dragons’ interest in David’s firm, and they fought among themselves to have a piece of the action.
Both Sara and Peter praised him as “amazing” and “one of the greatest in the world” when it came to making pop-ups.’.
‘I’m absolutely genuinely blown away,’ he continued. ‘It’s exceptional.’

Dragons of every variety have a bar Touker Suleyman, Peter, and Toby Bartlett all bid at David’s asking price after hearing an offer from Steven Bartlett.
Deborah told him, “If you get this response here, you’ll get this response everywhere,” and then she improved her offer by offering him 15% ownership stake in the company, which was matched by Sara.
David finally decided to team up with Peter and Touker, each of whom donated £20,000 and in exchange for a 10% stake.
On Twitter, the pop-up set was receiving a lot of positive feedback, with one user gushing, “This pop-up chess set is arguably the coolest idea I’ve seen on #DragonsDen,” despite the fact that the business owner was understandably apprehensive. Please, I beg you, let someone make an investment.
The paper pop up games are wonderful, and Mr. Pop-Up is a very bright man, according to one watcher.
Others agreed that it was a fantastic concept and were making plans to go out and get one immediately.
Dragon’s Den continues on Thursday at 8pm on BBC One.
