Eamonn Holmes has hit back at animal rights activist group PETA’s demands for Pork Pie Roundabout in Leicester to be renamed to Vegan Pie Roundabout.
The East Midlands landmark is named after a library, but now the vegan activists want to change its name to promote a healthier lifestyle.
Senior campaigns manager for PETA Kate Werner said: ‘This timely name change would inspire healthier food choices that help the environment, celebrate Leicester’s heritage, and prevent animal suffering.
‘This is not a pie-in-the-sky request.
‘Eating a varied plant-based diet has been shown to prevent heart disease, diabetes, abdominal fat, and cancer. Encouraging people to eat plant-based could also help lessen the burden on Leicester’s already overstretched NHS.’
However, GB News host Eamonn has slammed the idea, groaning when he heard guest Dawn Neesom explain the ‘fun story’ as: ‘Vegans are upset! Come on, it’s fun!’

Meanwhile, co-host Isabel Webster laughed off the story while Eamonn was heard groaning in disbelief.
‘So no, it’s just, vegans are upset,’ Eamonn replied, before continuing: ‘It’s people who wake up in the morning, here on this Thursday morning, this beautiful, sunny Thursday morning.
‘They wake up, and they switch on the telly, the radio, and they open up the computer, and they say, “I want to be upset.”
‘”I want to be annoyed. I want to find something to complain about. Let’s complain about a roundabout in Leicestershire called Pork Pie Island.
‘”Let’s rename it”… what?’ he questioned Dawn, before rolling his eyes when she confirmed: ‘Vegan Pie Island.’
The mayor of Leicester, Sir Peter Soulsby, is clearly on Eamonn’s side, as he told Metro.co.uk, speaking on behalf of the council and the city’s Pork Pie Library: ‘It’s a funny and quite clever way of drawing attention to themselves and their cause – but there is no way we could change the name people have given to the library and the roundabout next to it.
‘It has been known locally as the Pork Pie Library since it was built in the 1930s, thanks to its distinctive circular shape. Any talk of changing its name is just pie in the sky.’
Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel airs weekdays from 6am on GB News.
