Kelsey Grammer couldn’t hold back his tears as he discussed reprising his role as Dr. Frasier Crane ahead of the revival.
The 68-year-old actor has played the stuffy psychiatrist since 1984, debuting in Cheers before winning his own spin-off in 1993.
Three decades after Frasier initially aired, the Paramount+ revival will launch on October 12, ensuring we won’t have to wait too long.
Ahead of the release, a video obtained by People Magazine showed the actor addressing the live studio audience during filming on different occasions, hailing the ‘incredible journey’ he had been on with the character.
‘I’m delighted you’re here. I can’t tell you how grateful I am that you’re here, and how grateful we are that we have a chance to do this for you again,’ Kelsey proudly told one lucky crowd.
‘We’ve been working so hard at this thing and it’s been quite a while, and I think we’ve done something quite lovely.’
Becoming visibly emotional, he continued to another: ‘My love for this character is very sweet. I always do this!
‘It’s been such an incredible journey, to think that 20-some odd years later, we could do Frasier. What’s shocking is he’s just as fresh and alive as any regular human being would be.
‘Give us your blessing and wait for us. Give us love, and we’re going to give you love back.’
Anyone else need a tissue after all that?
For the revival, Kelsey will be accompanied by a mainly new ensemble, including Only Fools and Horses star Nicholas Lyndhurst as his buddy Alan, and Jack Cutmore-Scott as his son, Freddy.
Peri Gilpin and Bebe Neuwirth have returned to reprise their roles as Roz Doyle and Lilith Sternin, respectively, however David Hyde Pierce and Jane Leeves, who played Niles Crane and Daphne Moon, will not.
The 10-episode series will kick off with a double-bill on Thursday, with fresh episodes coming weekly on Thursdays.
The official synopsis reads: ‘The new series follows Frasier Crane (Grammer) in the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge and an old dream or two to finally fulfill.
‘Frasier has re-entered the building!’
Frasier premieres on October 12 on Paramount+.
