Family Guy’s Lois Griffin might be a cartoon character, but many people were left scratching their heads after her supposed death started trending on social media.
The matriarch of the fictional Griffin family at the centre of Seth MacFarlane’s animated sitcom, Lois has appeared on all of the past 21 seasons of the show, along with her husband Peter and their children Meg, Chris and Stewie, as well as the family dog Brian.
So, fans of the series were understandably confused when her death started trending on TikTok and Twitter this week.
People were wondering if the ‘Lois Griffin dead at 43’ posts meant she was being killed off the show or if something had happened to voice actor Alex Borstein.
However, it quickly became evident it was all a hoax started by Family Guy fans on the social media platforms.
It all began with TikTok users carrying out a prank where they would tell family and friends that Lois Griffin was dead.

While most people were met with replies of ‘who’ by people who didn’t realise the apparently dead woman was a fictional character, the videos and hashtag took off.
Many people poked fun at it and jumped on board the bandwagon to spread the news of her untimely demise.
However, others also seemed to believe what they were being told on Twitter, with one user writing: ‘Can you guys please stop saying that Lois Griffin is dead, I’m getting scared’.
Despite the chatter, Alex also seems to be alive and well, most recently posting about providing Christmas Cameos to fans on Sunday.
While Seth hasn’t commented on the matter, it doesn’t appear like he’s cut Lois from the series either.
After first being seen on screen in 1999, Lois, a recovering methamphetamine addict and kleptomaniac, has had a close encounter with death that could have seen her meet her end.
In season 21, her son Stewie finally carried out her apparent homicide after years of planning her demise.
However, she survived her son’s attack and came back to confront him.
Family Guy is available to stream on Disney Plus.
