As Wednesday becomes one of Netflix’s most-watched shows, fans have a theory that the series was shot in the same location as Gilmore Girls despite it being filmed on the other side of the world.
A spin-off following the character from The Addams Family, the series stars Jenny Ortega as the titular character who is sent to Nevermore Academy, a school of outcasts, after he murders her brother’s bullies.
After starting there, she starts to experience psychic visions, but they pull her into an unfolding murder mystery which she is intent on solving.
The nearby town of Jericho features in plenty of scenes and eagle-eyed viewers think they’ve seen the setting before.
Many are convinced the town is the same as Sleepy Hollow, the town where Lorelai and Rory lived in Gilmore Girls, and that the diner looks suspiciously like Luke’s.
‘Is it just me or does the town in Wednesday look a lot like Stars Hollow in Gilmore Girls,’ one viewer wrote on Twitter.
Many others echoed the same sentiment.
Another person included side-by-side comparison photos of the town.
Despite there being hundreds of posts with people totally convinced of the similarities, it turns out the series was actually shot in Romania, and not the Warner Bros studio in Los Angeles, where Gilmore Girls was filmed.
It was instead shot on location around the small mountain town of Busteni, while Jericho was actually a set built at Bucharest Film Studios.
However, that’s not to say plenty of inspiration wasn’t taken from Stars Hollow, because the similarities are undeniable.
The spin-off, which also stars Catherine Zeta Jones (as Morticia Addams), Gwendoline Christie (as Principle Weems) and former The Addams Family Wednesday Christina Ricci (as one of the teachers, Marilyn Thornhill).
Just a week after it was released it’s already been confirmed to have overtaken a viewing record previously held by Stranger Things season 4.
Wednesday has racked up a staggering 341.2 million hours of viewing globally during its opening week, beating the previous 335 million hours set by Stranger Things.
Wednesday is streaming on Netflix.
