The trailer for John Wick’s prequel, a limited series, has finally been released, and fans are overjoyed.
Although Keanu Reeves will not be appearing in this Peacock original series The Continental: From the World of John Wick, the ensemble is still rather impressive.
The first teaser teases the action-packed three-part miniseries, which will centre on the renowned Continental Hotel and delve into its history.
An official synopsis reads: ‘The three-part event will explore the origin behind the iconic hotel-for-assassins centerpiece of the John Wick universe through the eyes and actions of a young Winston Scott, as he’s dragged into the Hell-scape of 1970’s New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind.
‘Winston charts a deadly course through the hotel’s mysterious underworld in a harrowing attempt to seize the hotel where he will eventually take his future throne.’
Colin Woodell takes over for Winston, while Mel Gibson plays hotel owner and criminal lord Cormac, to mixed reviews.
‘This sacred institution wields power beyond your imagination,’ the 67-year-old actor ominously says in the trailer.
As Gibson begins to explain the basic narrative of the programme, action breaks out: Scott’s brother has taken something very significant that many ‘bad’ people want back.
Fans have criticised the casting of the Braveheart actor, who has been the target of controversy for numerous years, having to deny calling Winona Ryder a “oven dodger” in 2020.
He has faced antisemitism charges since 2006, when he embarked on an antisemitic diatribe against a police officer after being pulled over for drunk driving.
Four years later, a tape of him making threats to his former partner Oksana Grigorieva surfaced.
In 2011, he told Deadline: ‘I’ve never treated anyone badly or in a discriminatory way based on their gender, race, religion or sexuality – period. I don’t blame some people for thinking that though, from the garbage they heard on those leaked tapes, which have been edited.’

The Merlin actress was the topic of countless tweets when she was unveiled as The Adjudicator, bringing her half mask to ‘life’ for admirers.
‘All I care about is seeing Katie McGrath!!!’, wrote one viewer.
Another said: ‘Actual question: do I need to watch other John wick movies to understand this? I’ve never seen them. I’m watching this for Katie McGrath.’
The Continental: From the World of John Wick will be available to stream on from September 22.
