Big Brother has returned to our screens for the first time in five years, and the series, which is now running on ITV2, is immediately a fan favourite.
Previously, the series had residents who went on to become famous names, including Alison Hammond, who now hosts This Morning and The Great British Bake Off, as well as Brian Dowling, Adele Roberts, and the late Jade Goody.
Josie Gibson, who is now well-known as one of the hosts of This Morning, is another former Big Brother participant who has since climbed the dizzying heights of fame. She initially made her mark on TV when she took part in the programme, going on to be declared series winner in the process.
When did Josie appear on the show? Here’s what you should know…
When did Josie Gibson win Big Brother?
Josie Gibson was declared Big Brother’s champion in 2010.
The show was the 11th series, and the final to run on Channel 4 before the show was moved to Channel 5.
Josie, who aged 25 at the time of her participation, was the first housemate to join the house on the opening day of the season, as part of a surprise that saw 14 housemates chosen from a throng of 81 applicants on the night.
She was popular among her roommates, since she was only nominated five times by the others over the whole season, and she never faced a public vote.
She was a big hit with the audience as well, winning the final with 77.5% of the vote – the biggest proportion in series history – ahead of other competitors Dave Vaughn, Mario Mugan, JJ Bird, and Andrew Edmonds.
Josie’s in-house romance with fellow participant John James Parton kept us all on the edge of our seats, with the couple confirming their relationship after she left the house.
Josie went on to star in Ultimate Big Brother, an all-star version of the show starring prominent cast members from Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother that premiered immediately after the original season ended.
All of this meant that she returned to the house barely 18 minutes after her triumph, but she left the show after only three episodes.
What else has Josie Gibson been in?
She went on to feature in spin-off programmes such as There’s Something About Josie and Josie and John James: What Happened Next after Big Brother, with the duo dating for nine months until splitting in 2011.
Josie later worked as a reporter for Channel 5’s OK! TV and Big Brother’s Bit On The Side, as well as appearing on Loose Women, Celebrity Wedding Planner, Celebrity Juice, Let’s Do Lunch With Gino and Mel, and Live from Studio Five.
She joined This Morning in 2019 as a competition announcer before taking over as a stand-in host for Holly Willoughby in 2021.
Meanwhile, whispers persist that she will be swapping the This Morning couch for a spot in the jungle as a participant on this year’s I’m A Celebrity.
Big Brother continues on ITV2 week nights at 9pm.
