Georgia Toffolo has admitted she’s starting to feel sorry for Matt Hancock on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2022, despite previously calling his appearance on the show ‘disgraceful’.
Ever since it was revealed that the former health secretary would be going on the ITV programme, there’s been a consistent level of backlash over his casting, considering the circumstances of his resignation from the role – when he broke his own social distancing rules – and the fact that he is still a sitting MP.
Just last week, Georgia said she’d ‘never been more embarrassed about the Tory party’ ahead of Hancock’s arrival, stating: ‘I think this is disgraceful.’
However, the Made In Chelsea star appears to have now softened her tune, saying she’s started to feel towards the politician following his tense reception from the other celebrities in camp.
While appearing on This Morning alongside Boris Johnson’s father Stanley Johnson, the 28-year-old explained to Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond that she’s been trying to ‘compartmentalise’ when thinking about Hancock in the jungle.
‘So I thought about Matt Hancock the MP who has abandoned his constituents, that’s that. And then I look at a campmate who has just gone in into quite a tricky situation and I think as a viewer you will always feel a little bit uncomfortable with someone being rejected and I can’t help but feel a tiny bit sorry for him,’ she said.
Georgia has experience of being in camp, having won the show in 2017 and become friends with fellow campmate Stanley, 82, while on the series.
She added that she felt as though Hancock was ‘craving likeability’ from the other celebrities, and believes she needs to ‘give him a chance’.
However, she added: ‘But I really am being strong on this – there really are two separate thought processes for me.
‘There the Matt who is going in there and one thing I’ve noticed about Matt Hancock is that he is craving likeability and I think when you do behave like that in a camp setting you can’t help but feel like ‘Oh, I’ve got to give the man a chance!’”
Stanley, meanwhile, left Alison in shock when he asserted that he believes Hancock could end up winning the whole competition.
Tonight, Hancock will be taking on his third Bushtucker Trial, this time teaming up with Boy George for an eating challenge.
During Thursday night’s episode, he took home a full house of 11 stars during the Tentacles of Terror trial.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV. I’m A Celebrity returns tonight at 9pm on ITV.
