Grand Designs viewers were left emotional after one couple revealed the heartwarming connection they had to their land.
During Wednesday night’s episode, Rob and Kate were keen to replace their rundown post-war prefab home that has stood the ages and lasted a lot longer than expected.
But the pair didn’t have the confidence to take on the complete project and opted to commission a readymade house that was built in a factory and delivered to the site on the back of a lorry.
The couple’s choice of the pre-built, ready-made home was in aim to have the building completed as quickly as possible.
Presenter Kevin McCloud explained that the couple ‘framed the land that was once Rob’s family farm.’
‘I’ve always wanted to build Kate a house,’ Rob said.

‘And to see the smile on her face, and seeing how excited she gets… she’s wonderful.’
When asked whether she felt connected to Rob’s family, Kate added: ‘His connection to things can be infectious, if it’s important to him, it’s important to me.
‘I’ve not been able to have children, so being able to create this is different but important. I’ve lived here since I was three, and it’s home.’
Viewers couldn’t deal with Rob’s revelation, with one writing: ‘This is such a good story, it has a bit of soul to it. I love how much the land means to them and how rooted they are.’
‘I’m not crying…..you are……someone’s cutting onions……’ another added.
‘Oh GOD!!! Grand Designs has got me right in the heart strings tonight,’ a third person wrote.
While their modern transformation was worth the five-month wait, it wasn’t all smooth sailing to begin with.

As the couple waited for the first floor of their house to be constructed in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, a wide load lorry – specialising in the movement of agricultural equipment – started to make its way to the property.
In a teaser, the huge truck made its way through a narrow country road, however, the driver underestimated the width.
Things turned from bad to worse as the driver slowly made his way down the road, and the roof of the vehicle got caught in the branch.
‘Oh s**t!’ said one of the workers.
Luckily, it all worked out in the end.
Grand Designs is available to stream on Channel 4.
