Helen Skelton has no time for the accusations Strictly Come Dancing has been ‘fixed’ as she previously won a dancing competition.
The presenter, 39, is among the star-studded lineup for Strictly 2022, having reportedly signed up days after her ex husband Richie Myler went public with his new girlfriend soon after their split.
However there were claims of a ‘fix’ after an old BBC interview with Helen resurfaced where she said she had won a Ken Dodd tap dancing award at the age of 17.
On Wednesday, speaking to Lorraine Kelly on her ITV chat show, Helen laughed off the accusations, saying she found the fix claims ‘so funny.’
Lorraine acknowledged that Helen did some tap dancing when she was ‘wee,’ and asked ‘do you think that will help you at all?’
To which Helen laughed: ‘I find that so funny, you know they said “It’s a fix! Helen’s a tap-dancing champion!”

‘I was like, “When I was seven, yes, I did tap dancing.”‘
She explained that, like many children, ‘I did dancing, absolutely loved it, hit an age when I didn’t want to wear a leotard in public and I gave it up.
‘I wish that I hadn’t,’ she admitted. ‘But now, bring it back!’
Lorraine then pointed out that there hasn’t been any tap dancing in Strictly Come Dancing that she could remember, with a laughing Helen then crossing her fingers.
‘Well you never know,’ she joked. ‘If there is, that’s my week!’
Speaking generally about her excitement for the show, Helen said: ‘I love the challenge and I love the learning, it’s an amazing experience and technically it’s work so it’s winner winner winner.
‘And it’s really nice to work on a programme that my mum and dad actually want to watch,’ she joked.
Last month, Helen became the final star to join the Strictly 2022 line-up, with all 15 spots now filled, as she joins famous faces including Fleur East, Kym Marsh, Tony Adams and Matt Goss.
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV
