Martin Roberts of Homes Under the Hammer has said that he ‘drank his own urine’ and even’s*** himself’ for a fresh new reality series.
The 59-year-old TV host disclosed maybe a bit too much about his experience on the new Channel 4 diet show The Big Celebrity Detox.
TV personality and former singer Kerry Katona, model Chloe Veitch, and Celebrity Karaoke star David Potts will join him on the difficult weight loss programme.
Toby Aromolaran and Megan Barton Hanson from Love Island will be attending, as will Princess Olga Romanoff.
Producers for the new season invited Martin, who placed sixth on I’m A Celebrity in 2016, to try some, well, unorthodox nutritional approaches.
Martin admitted: ‘I think [the producers] did this as a shock factor to get people to watch the series – we had to drink our own urine.’
Speaking to The Sun, he continued: ‘They threw us into the deep end with the worst therapy they could have possibly thought of.’
Worst of all, Martin says, were the ‘vomit beans,’ which are specially engineered to produce intense vomiting and diarrhoea.
Martin explained: ‘You eat these beans, sit around in a circle and chant over a fire and then these weird people in white smocks give you these beans.’
It turns out, once the beans are ingested, there’s no turning back: ‘They’re fried and are guaranteed to make you throw up and s*** yourself.’
The TV veteran, who began hosting Homes Under the Hammer in 2003, recently underwent emergency heart surgery but elected to continue.
A sudden and unexpected buildup of fluid put pressure on his heart, reportedly leaving him with only hours to live and an urgent need for surgery.
The Big Celebrity Detox will air through Channel 4’s sister station E4, with a source telling the Birmingham Mail that viewers will be ‘uncomfortable’ with the series.
‘This will go down as one of the most nauseating scenes ever on TV. It’s horrendous, an uncomfortable moment for the celebs, but also for viewers.’
Watch The Big Celebrity Detox on E4 from Monday.
