For an intriguing new Netflix series, Sofia Vergara has morphed into Colombian drug gang head Griselda Blanco.
We’re used to seeing Sofia in lighter roles (she portrayed Gloria on Modern Family for 11 years), but her current film demonstrates another side of her acting skills.
The 51-year-old will play a genuine person known as the Cocaine Godmother, which reveals a lot about her nature.
Blanco commands the attention of a room full of guys in the brief trailer, published ahead of the film’s January premiere on the streaming site.
‘You’ve been thinking about me a lot,’ she told them.
‘I’ve heard that you liked my product. We can make a lot of money together.’

We see narcotics being packed as the trailer proceeds, but we only hear Blanco’s voice.
When one individual inquired, ‘Who is in charge?’ It ultimately panned to Blanco, revealing Sofia in character while scary music played in the background.
While we’re used to seeing Sofia with a huge, bouncy blowdry, her hair is considerably shorter and curlier this time, and her stern face is covered with cuts, revealing the terrible nature of her employment as a hardened criminal. Sofia has said that she spends two hours a day in the makeup chair, so the change is not easy.

Netflix teased the upcoming limited series: ‘La Jefa is coming. Sofia Vergara transforms in this series, inspired by Griselda Blanco, a woman who rose from obscurity to become ‘the Godmother’ of the underworld.’
‘Witness her lethal blend of charm and ruthlessness in this captivating series,’ they concluded.
The episodes, created by the same people who worked on Narcos and Narcos: Mexico, will depict Blanco’s reign of terror in the 1970s. Blanco is said to have made about $80 million per month at one time.

The mother of four was imprisoned in 1995 and pled guilty to three charges of second-degree murder in 1998.
Blanco, also known as The Black Widow after killing her second husband, was freed after serving 10 years of her 20-year sentence and lived a peaceful life before being slain in 2012 while leaving a butcher’s shop.
Alberto Guerra as Dario, Alberto Ammann as Alberto Bravo, Christian Tappan as Arturo, and Vanessa Ferlito as Isabel all feature in the multilingual small-screen production.

Sofía recently admitted she had seen a ‘lot of changes’ in her life.
‘A lot of changes, a lot of good and craziness and bad things happen and good things happen,’ she told Entertainment Tonight.
She divorced her husband Joe Manganiello earlier this year after seven years of marriage.
Griselda is released January 25 on Netflix.
