Hugh Jackman became upset while discussing his father’s death while filming The Son.
In Florian Zeller’s follow-up project to 2020’s The Father, the Wolverine actor, 54, plays a lawyer learning how to negotiate his teenage son’s sadness.
His father died while the project was being filmed.
Christopher John Jackman died ‘peacefully’ on Father’s Day in Australia in September.
He was thought to be 84 years old.
Hugh has spoken about his father’s death and how it was an emotionally charged period on set because of the film’s theme, which only worsened as he faced the emotions of losing his father.
‘It was a really emotional period for me, and I am very thankful to every member of the cast and crew.
‘When you’re going through something like that, and you’re making a film that’s so serious, you simply can’t do it alone, and you have to depend on people,’ he stated on Friday’s episode of The Graham Norton Show.
Hugh, on the other hand, felt upset and began sobbing as he spoke about losing his father.
‘I had people there and uh, I did, and I am very grateful for it,’ he continued.
Graham consoled Hugh by saying that he should feel “extremely proud” of the picture.
‘You are so good in it. It is such a powerful film,’ he said.
Talking about starring in the film focus on fatherhood, Hugh said he hoped it would also ‘start conversations around mental health’.
‘It is beautifully written, beautifully produced, and will, I think touch everyone.’

He also said the role ‘changed me as a parent’.
‘One beautiful line in the script is “Love isn’t always enough,” which is one of the most difficult things for a parent to hear,’ he said.
‘I realised it is okay to say to my own children, “I don’t know” and to be open and vulnerable.
‘I used to think they wanted surety and strength from me, but I now share with them things I wouldn’t have before.’
He added: Hopefully I’m not boring dad doing it and that they appreciate it.’
Hugh spoke on his decision not to take a break from the film to mourn his father’s passing in December.
Hugh learned of his father’s death while filming the drama, but chose to continue working rather than take time off to see his father.
‘My father actually never missed a day of work in his life,’ he told the BBC.
‘I did imagine what my father would say and he would say, “Go to work”’.
However, he said that he was a “hot mess” at this period, but noted how the mental health specialists employed for this project were quite beneficial.
The Graham Norton Show airs on Fridays and is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
