The Channel 4 show Taskmaster is interested in hiring iconic comedian Jasper Carrott for his first major TV show appearance in a decade.
According to IMDb, the Brummie performer, actual name Robert Davis, 78, hasn’t featured consistently on our screens since 2004 when comedy All About Me, in which he portrayed Colin with Nina Wadia, ended.
But things might change if Taskmaster’s (Little) Alex Horne, 45, gets his way and, presumably, consults with his master Greg Davies, 55.
For Jasper is at the top of Alex’s list of potential competitors for the popular game show, which has previously included Katherine Ryan, Frank Skinner, Romesh Ranganathan, and Aisling Bea.
When asked who would be his dream celebrity for Taskmaster, Alex told the Always Be Comedy podcast ‘There are a few old-school people who I’d love to have, like [Jasper] Carrott.’
Also naming Joe Pasquale as a potential contestant, he added: ‘He’s not chasing things [career-wise], but I think [Joe] Pasquale would do it and I think he would be great.
‘But it’s a big conversation because if you’re having Pasquale, you’re not having someone else and it’s ten weeks.’
While Jasper is no longer a television regular as he was in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, he continues to do stand-up comedy.
In 2022, he travelled his Stand Up & Rock concert around the UK with The Bev Bevan Band, stopping in Truro and Bath.
Jasper is most known for hosting the daily game programme Golden Balls from 2007 to 2009, as well as the comic show Canned Carrott from 1990 to 1995.
Jasper has also played fictitious characters, most notably Bob Louis in the TV series The Detectives, and most recently in the long-running radio drama The Archers.
Meanwhile, Joe, 62, is best known as a comedian, actor, and television host.
In 2004, he won the fourth series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, and in 2013, he finished ninth in the eighth season of Dancing on Ice.
Taskmaster, which premiered in 2015, has five celebrities participating in a series of impossible and chaotic challenges monitored by Alex, with Greg assigning them a score out of five depending on their performance.
Taskmaster is available to stream on Channel 4.
