Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, one of the most iconic duos ever in British entertainment, have reunited for the delightfully zany M&S Christmas advert for 2022.
It might only be the very start of November, but the end of Halloween means that the festive season has firmly arrived, and with it the incoming barrage of Santa Claus-filled commercials.
One of the first few adverts to be released comes from M&S food, who’ve enlisted the help of Dawn and Jennifer to tell the tale of Fairy and her new pal Duckie.
Having last year teamed up with Tom Holland and his portrayal of Percy Pig, for 2022, Fairy goes on the hunt for a new festive friend.
After flying down from the top of the Christmas tree, she assesses a few baubles as potential options… but the nutcracker and a lobster decoration just won’t cut it.
So, she decides to sprinkle some of her magic on the dog’s chew toy Duckie, who comes to life and is voiced by the ever-charismatic Jennifer.
Having stepped out from the dog’s bed, Duckie tells Fairy that she’s falling apart, as some of the stuffing from her stomach falls to the ground.
However, Fairy has a solution – making sure that Duckie is filled with Christmas spirit instead.
But first, they have to fend off the excitable dog, who can’t seem to believe their eyes that their favourite chew toy has come to life.
Fairy uses her magic to help Duckie use her wings to fly away, as the pair land on the kitchen table, away from the dog’s grasp.
The magical star of the show then waves her magic once more, creating a table filled with a delicious festive feast, from a roast turkey to mince pies, Brussels sprouts, cheese, pigs in blankets and more.
The advert leaves mouths watering with close-up looks at the food being sold by M&S, as Fairy says: ‘We are going to have the bestest Christmas ever.’
As the dog barks up at the duo – who are perched high above on a table – Duckie adds: ‘Yes, but I think I might celebrate it up here on the sideboard, if that’s ok.’
