Indian Matchmaking star Nadia Jagessar has hit back amid criticisms of ‘cheating’ after backlash from this series.
Nadia starred in the popular Netflix reality series in season one, where Sima Taparia matched her up but unfortunately, things didn’t quite work out, and the 34-year-old returned for series two.
During this series, which also saw the return of contestant Aparna Shewakramani amongst others, Nadia continued the storyline of her relationship with Shekar Jayaraman not having progressed much, despite him meeting her family early on.
As the series progressed, Nadia, with the help of Sima Aunty, returned to dating, but this time, had more input with who she chose to spend time with after the professional matchmaker’s warnings against dating someone younger than her.
Nonetheless, Nadia began to date Vishal, and later after seeing them kiss, Shekar shared his heartbreak over a FaceTime call.
As the episodes aired, Indian Matchmaking fans slammed Nadia on social media, accusing her of ‘gaslighting’ Shekar and ‘cheating’.

‘And Nadia????? I loved her but why did she cheat on Shekar like that like????’ one viewer wrote, while another penned: ‘I left last season really rooting for Nadia but she did Shekar so dirty and had the audacity to gaslight him?’
However, in an exclusive chat with Metro.co.uk, Nadia has revealed that her portrayal on the show actually involved ‘gaps in her story’.
‘It was tough to see,’ she said.
‘Especially, you know, knowing the truth and what actually happened, but I think there’s a good amount of people in the audience who could see that there were gaps in the story.

‘And so for me, I was like, okay, this, this isn’t adding up. So it was just really interesting to see how it played out.’
Nadia highlighted the two years that had passed between filming seasons one and two, and pointed out that she and Shekar ‘were never together’.
She also told us that she actually was dating someone else during that period, who Shekar knew about.
Talking about ending her relationship with Shekar, Nadia shared: ‘For me, it felt mutual. Maybe from his end, I’m not sure but, it was never communicated to me.’

When Shekar admitted his heartbreak to her on FaceTime, Nadia revealed she had felt ‘very surprised’, adding that the conversation with him was ‘shocking’.
‘I was not expecting [his] reaction,’ she said, adding: ‘To see that, it kind of hurt me, but then I also felt bad because I was like, well if you felt this way, why didn’t you say anything to me?’
Despite how her story played out, Nadia thought this season was nonetheless ‘beautiful’, pointing out new storylines that were ‘wonderful to watch’.
However, Nadia revealed that she won’t be returning for the third series of the show, which was teased at the end of the final episode, with Sima beginning to visit clients in London.
