ITV News has been applauded for the blistering introduction on its 10 o’clock news programme, with viewers describing journalist Tom Bradby as a ‘legend’ and dubbing the segment an ‘incredible summary’ of an astonishing day.
On Wednesday October 19, the British government was plunged into further chaos as a call was made in the House of Commons for Prime Minister Liz Truss to step down as Prime Minister, while Suella Braverman was sacked as Home Secretary after a meagre 43 days.
Two Tory whips were later said to have resigned from their positions amid claims of bullying as MPs voted on fracking, as Ms Truss admitted in a tumultuous Prime Minister’s Questions that she had ‘made mistakes’ and was ‘sorry’.
Following a day full of twists and turns in UK politics, Mr Bradby opened ITV News at Ten with a summary of the latest updates… summarising the rollercoaster journey in spectacular fashion.
‘It has been a night of astonishing scenes at Westminster with reports of jostling, manhandling, bullying and shouting outside the Parliamentary lobbies in a supposed vote of confidence in the government,’ he said.
‘The Deputy Chief Whip was reported to have left the scene saying, “I’m absolutely effing furious, I just don’t effing care anymore,” before he resigned, along with the Chief Whip. But, we’ve just been told they have now officially un-resigned. The Home Secretary has, however, definitely gone. In short, it is total, absolute, abject chaos.’
One person shared a clip of Mr Bradby’s intro on Twitter, writing: ‘Absolutely incredible opening to itv news tonight,’ in a tweet that has since garnered more than 55,000 likes and 11,000 retweets.
‘Tom Bradby’s extraordinary two minute introduction to ITV’s News at Ten last night is as good a summary of this govt skip fire as you’re likely to find anywhere,’ one person quipped in response to the video.
‘Tom Bradby is an absolute legend ..,’ someone else said in praise of the newsreader.
‘Thrilled that Tom Bradby’s gone viral – the best newsreader of all,’ another person commented, while one person said that it was an ‘incredible summary of the nuttiest day so far’.
‘This has got to be the best opening to News At Ten ever!’ another tweet exclaimed, while it was also claimed that the segment ‘makes The Thick of It look like a documentary’.
It’s been claimed that Ms Truss had a ’90-minute shouting match’ with Ms Braverman before the former Home Secretary’s departure.
Meanwhile, the PM insisted in PMQs that she’s ‘a fighter, not a quitter’.
