James Haskell has revealed that his ‘fiery’ father-in-law Richard Madeley was forbidden from even entering the kitchen on Christmas Day.
Many people can attest to how heated it can get when surrounded by relatives during the holiday season.
On Wednesday’s This Morning, former rugby union player James discussed what it’s like to spend time with Good Morning Britain host Richard, adding that his in-law isn’t the kind to cook in a stress-free environment.
In 2018, he married Chloe Madeley, 35, and the pair welcomed their baby in August of last year.
‘Christmas was good,’ James shared, before explaining why Richard, 66, wasn’t allowed in the kitchen area.
‘This year he wasn’t allowed to cook because he can get quite fiery in the kitchen,’ he said.
‘The first time I met him I got invited over on Boxing Day. I was told that he can be a little bit tricky in the kitchen, don’t go in there. Of course, that was a red flag to a bull.’
James remembered how he wanted to’make a good impression’ as a son-in-law, so he walked into the kitchen and ‘chatted’ with Richard.
This prompted the broadcaster to curse at him, with Chloe telling him that he swears at everyone when he’s cooking, including famed chef Jamie Oliver.
‘This year, he was thrown out of the kitchen because we wanted it stress-free,’ James added.
‘Chloe’s brother Dan cooked an absolute storm, smashed it, very relaxing, looked after like royalty, and it was amazing.’
In February last year, Richard was delighted over the announcement on Good Morning Britain that James and Chloe were expecting their first child together.
‘Well Richard, Chloe and I are expecting our first child. We’re going to be having a little girl and you are going to be a grandfather once again,’ James said live on the programme.
Over the Christmas period, Richard was struck down by a month-long superbug, he recently revealed.
‘Never had anything like it before. In fact, I’m beginning to wonder if there’s a new strain of Covid going around,’ he said.
‘I took a test every week, it was always negative, but I can’t help thinking that’s what I had.’
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
