Jamie Oliver managed to irritate some of his fans in his new holiday programme when he offered an… odd combo for inside his ideal Christmas sandwich.
The famed TV chef, 48, suggested new recipes to cope with leftovers on Boxing Day in the second episode of Jamie’s Christmas Shortcuts, dubbed Betwixmas.
Naturally, this included a massive Christmas sandwich (or muffuletta) stuffed with turkey, gammon and cheese and served on focaccia with a unique mixed gravy mayonnaise within.
However, it appears that the combination of two popular sauces did not go over well with all viewers – and Jamie knew it would take some convincing on his side.
Introducing his stomach-turning combination, Naked Chef star Jamie acknowledged it was controversial as he explained: ‘Often you’d see different kind of mayonnaises or aioli as a layer on a muffuletta, and I’m going to make some leftover gravy mayonnaise.’
He added: ‘I can only promise you this is a thing of beauty, gravy mayonnaise. It’s so right but wrong… it’s so good!’

‘I’ve defended Jamie Oliver for 25 years. I can’t defend gravy mayonnaise. Sorry,’ tweeted @NiallcNPC31 on social media platform X.
‘FFS #JamieOliver Gravy mayonnaise?!?!’ asked outraged user @WombledonDog.
‘@jamieoliver I try most things, but no f***ing way am I trying gravy mixed with mayonnaise,’ added Del Mitri, alongside three green nauseous face emoji.
Anne-Marie M was even more direct in her judgement on the sauce, revealing that the gravy mayo was ‘making me want to vomit’.
‘What in the fresh hell is this? No… noooo … surely not,’ questioned Rebecca Drees, before admitting: ‘Now cannot just leave the gravy and will be left intrigued and mixing it with mayo after Christmas. What have you done!!!!’

Others were awfully suspicious but ultimately trusting of the chef.
‘Gravy and mayonnaise @jamieoliver are you sure? Did I hear that right?,’ wondered Karen Woodland.
‘I’ll give it a go,’ she then added.

Jamie recently made fans laugh as he offered a scathing rebuke to presenter Jake Humphrey, who managed to confront him live on television in an attempt to get the celebrity chef on his High Performance podcast.
Jake claimed that he had anxiously tried to contact Jamie and must have reached out to him ‘around 50 times’.
When Jake’s request was relayed to Jamie by colleague Chris Moyles on his XFM radio programme, it didn’t exactly go as planned – but hey, if you don’t ask, you don’t receive.
Jamie’s Christmas Shortcuts is available to watch via catch-up on Channel 4.
