Jenna Ortega was supposed to return for season four, but she was too busy filming on Wednesday.
In the second season of the eerie Netflix thriller, the 20-year-old played Ellie Alves, who befriended homicidal psychopath Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley).
Soon after, she was cast as Wednesday Addams in Tim Burton’s series, in which the character must stop a murdering spree terrorising the town while also solving a 25-year mystery surrounding her parents.
The Addams Family spin-off became a smash hit, setting the record for the most hours seen in a week by an English-language TV series on Netflix.
Sera Gamble, the show’s creator, indicated that they intended to bring Ellie back for season 4, which premiered this week and sees Joe acquire a new identity and meet a band of crooked toffs in London.
Jenna’s Wednesday schedule, however, got in the way, as Sera explained: “We wanted to bring Ellie back and we heard, “Oh, Jenna is doing some show.”
The told IndieWire: ‘It’s been just such a pleasure to see Jenna this year. We have ideas for Ellie if her schedule allows her to visit us again.’
And, given Wednesday’s unprecedented popularity, which has been extended for a second season, we can only think Jenna is even more difficult to pin down.
She’ll also be seen in the newest episode of Scream, which follows Tara (Jenna) and her sister Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) as they leave Woodsboro for New York.
The teaser was released last month, and it showed the masked assassin stalking the actors through the streets of New York while their’shrine’ to prior Ghostfaces was revealed.
Jenna revealed to Entertainment Weekly what horror fans may anticipate, explaining that her character had to deal with her’suffocating’ sibling as well as Ghostface’s attacks.
‘At the top of the film we see my character Tara avoiding her trauma and desperately trying to reclaim her teenage experience and become normal college student,’ she said.
‘There’s a lot of tension between her and Sam, she feels as though she’s too protective and unwilling to allow them both to move on. She feels suffocated.
You and Wednesday are available to stream on Netflix.
