Jeremy Renner claims he has “no regrets” about his snowplough mishap because it was done to save his nephew.
The Marvel star, best known for his role as the superhero Hawkeye, was rushed to the hospital on New Year’s Day after being hit by and ‘dragged beneath’ the vehicle.
It was later revealed that the 52-year-old was involved in the horrific accident while attempting to stop his nephew from being hit.
Now that Jeremy is recovering from the tragic catastrophe, he says he doesn’t regret it and would do it again to save his nephew.
In a new interview, the Hawkeye actor told Diane Sawyer on ABC he was ‘awake for every moment of the crash, saying it was ‘my mistake and I paid for it’.
‘It’s exactly how you imagine it would feel,’ he said, adding: ‘It felt like someone took the wind out of you.’
Jeremy recalls looking at his leg in disbelief after the accident and believing it was ‘going to be an issue’.
He went on to say that while recollections of the event sometimes still “trigger” him, he refuses to be “haunted” by them and has “no regrets.”
‘I would do it again.’ he said.
‘I refuse to have that be a trauma and it be a negative experience. That is a man I’m proud of because I wouldn’t let that happen to my nephew.
‘So shift the narrative of being victimised or making a mistake or anything else. I refuse to be f*****g haunted by that memory that way.’
While he refuses to be plagued by the ancient, he felt horrible for his family, recalling how he used sign language to apologise to them while in the hospital.
‘I felt bad that my actions had caused so much pain,’ he explained.
‘That’s real love. It’s suffering but that feeds the seeds of what love is.’
The actor stated that he thought he was dying and even scribbled down what he thought were his last words while in the hospital, appealing with doctors not to ‘let me live on tubes on a machine… on drugs and painkillers, just let me go now’.
In the event, Jeremy sustained eight broken ribs and revealed that his lung collapsed after being penetrated by a bone.
He also shattered his right knee, both ankles, and had injuries to his eye socket, mouth, and shoulder.
