Joe Lycett has proven that he doesn’t mind producing a little of mayhem on film, and he’s now aiming to expand on that with the commission of a new comic talk show.
Following the success of his headline-grabbing World Cup prank, the comedian will now present a programme with a focus on ‘inclusivity and joy’.
The Joe Lycett Live Show’ (working title) will air for five episodes on Channel 4 and will include him broadcasting live from his hometown of Birmingham with a live audience and star guests.
Each week, Joe will be joined by members of his community, LGBTQ+ heroes and supporters, as well as celebrities and big-name guests from the fields of comedy, television, music, and cinema.
Joe will be ‘combining his distinctive brand of mischief and mayhem with his individual style of humour’, as he describes the programme as reflecting back on the week in a manner ‘only he can’.
The show is believed to offer a “touch of Hollywood shine to Digbeth,” since it is shot on the banks of Birmingham’s canals.
‘I’m absolutely psyched and naturally very nervous about hosting a weekly live show from Birmingham, but it has been a dream of mine for many years and I look forward to some (controlled) late night chaos,’ Joe said.
The release date has yet to be determined, but it follows the popularity of Joe Lycett’s Big Pride Party last year.
A co-production between Rumpus Media and My Options Were Limited, Emily Hudd, the joint managing director of Rumpus indicated that this will be a ‘truly inclusive programme’.
‘It’s a weekly celebration uniquely curated by Joe that harnesses both his mischief but also his warmth – it will be funny, silly and explicitly Joe Lycett.’
While Joe has already addressed numerous injustices, it was his money-shredding prank to call out David Beckham for his ambassadorship with Qatar at the World Cup that saw him praised for speaking out on behalf of LGBTQI+ people.
Joe Lycett formerly hosted three seasons of his award-winning Channel 4 show Joe Lycett’s Got Your Back and three seasons of the BBC’s popular show The Great British Sewing Bee. He also hosts the documentary series Travel Man.
The Joe Lycett Live Show is expected to air on Channel 4 later this year.
