John Whaite has announced he’s launching an OnlyFans account, issuing a lengthy statement so no one ‘gets the wrong impression’ about the content he’ll be uploading.
The subscription-based service, which launched in 2016, boasts users including Bella Thorne, Cardi B and Kerry Katona, as well as many members of the public who use it to charge users for content.
While some people use OnlyFans to offer adult content behind a paywall, Strictly Come Dancing star John explained that he would not be ‘doing porn’ on his new account, adding: ‘Though I do have friends who do porn and think sex work should be respected, but that’s a different story!’
Sharing his statement on Instagram alongside a picture of himself taking a dip in a pool, the 33-year-old wrote that his reasons for moving some of his content to the website included the fact that he thinks his ‘workout videos have a value’ and his ‘cheekier gym-progress posts’ are ‘more appropriately suited in an area where age-restriction is better handled’.
The former Great British Bake Off winner added that he believes his Instagram profile ‘should continue to be dedicated to food creativity and branded work’.
‘All my content on OF is of the sort that I’ve already shared on Instagram, but for the above reasons I think it’s more appropriate behind a paywall,’ he stated.

John stressed that he wanted to speak out about joining OnlyFans ‘before anyone is able to pick it up and distort the truth’.
‘I wanted to own this story before anyone is able to pick it up and distort its truth; this is the kind of information that could be morphed into a salacious and scandalous headline or piece of gossip, when the reality of it is simply a continuation of some the content I have posted for years on Instagram, but with a refreshed regard to its value and to protect the eyes of younger audiences,’ he wrote.
‘I know that in spite of this clear explanation, some of you may still have quite strong opinions about my decision, but I ask that you respect it and keep an open heart and an open mind. And of course, if you want to subscribe you’d be very welcome.’

Several people commented on the post with messages of support, including one person who said: ‘Eloquently put! Good for you John!’
‘Respect. Cogent argument. Makes sense. And I like your support of and respect for sex workers – it’s really important,’ someone else commented.
With Strictly fans excitedly awaiting the start of the 2022 series, John’s former professional dance partner Johannes Radebe – with whom he finished in second place in last year’s season – recently shared a heartfelt tribute in his honour.
‘I can’t believe it’s been a year since John came into my life and what a fabulous and truly special Strictly journey we had,’ Johannes wrote.
‘There were moments during the show which took my breath away, including the overwhelming support we received. I can’t thank everybody enough for the kind comments and for taking the time to vote. It means so so much.’
