On Thursday’s Lorraine, John Whaite made some amusing comments about Strictly Come Dancing.
The former Strictly professional partner Johannes Radebe recently stated that he cheated on his fiancée with’soap stars and small celebs’ and ‘fell in love’ with him.
This Thursday, when speaking with Christine Lampard, who was sitting in for Lorraine, the 34-year-old Great British Bake Off champion was asked about his recent shocking love life discoveries by Christine, 44.
In response, he quipped with a smile on his face: ‘What I have to say is how great it is that the gays are finally getting embroiled in the Strictly scandal.
‘Before we were on the sidelines, now the gays are getting involved in the Strictly curse. It’s a sign of progress.’
Striking a more serious tone, John, who is still engaged to his partner Paul Atkins, shared: ‘The reason I’ve spoken about that story – and specifically with Johannes’ consent and my partner’s consent – is to illustrate the point that life is difficult.’
‘We are frail human beings, and our hearts may occasionally be torn apart,’ he rightly said.
‘Sometimes you have to take stock and just think to yourself: “Who am I? What [are] my values, and how do I get back to that?”’
John concluded: ‘The point of the story is a story of love. If it weren’t for my partnership with Paul, where we speak candidly and honestly about how we feel, I don’t know where I would be in life.’
In 2021, John and Johannes, both 36, competed in what was a genuinely breakthrough series of the BBC dance programme, finishing second behind Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice.
While their relationship was beautiful from the start, John acknowledged earlier this month that he had other sentiments boiling beneath the surface.
During the competition, he ‘fell in love’ with Johannes, with whom he created history as the first male-male partnership.
Johannes was thought to be unmarried at the time, although he was really engaged to his partner Paul.
Because of his feelings for Johannes, the couple, who had been together for more than 15 years, had to spend some time apart.
Fortunately, they appear to be back on track, as a family source revealed that, despite their hiccup, John and graphic designer Paul are still together.
When approached by MailOnline, Paul’s dad Peter Atkins, 71, nodded his head when asked if John and Paul were still engaged to be married.
Speaking at the family’s semi-detached home in Radcliffe, Greater Manchester, Peter said of the split: ‘It was only very brief.’
‘It was nothing, really,’ he insisted this month.
