Katherine Ryan, a comedian, shared behind-the-scenes truths from her time on The Great Celebrity Bake Off and explained why she was a little buzzing off by the show’s producers.
As part of their Stand Up To Cancer series, the 39-year-old actor featured on the renowned baking competition show.
The Duchess actress said that her baking abilities were ‘adequate,’ but that it was a ‘great experience,’ but that the circumstances within the outside tent startled her.
The kitchens, which take place in big white open-air facilities, are practically outside and at the mercy of, well, Mother Nature, something Katherine was unprepared for.
Something they don’t tell you is that there are a lot of bees in the tent, she told Metro.co.uk.
‘Because it’s outside and it’s so sweet in there. There’s lots of sugar and fondant and lots of things that attract bees.
‘Every time I would prepare one of my cakes, they’d come to take a shot of it and they’d have to get all bees off.’
The much-loved funny-woman continued: ‘I thought that bees would be featured in the programme.
‘Sometimes you see like one or two bees but that thing’s full of bees, that tent.
‘So Bake Off… You don’t know the pressure, you’re under because there’s a time constraint and it’s a competition but then also the bees are after you’.
Katherine went on to make a joke about the absence of bee shots that appear on the Channel 4 show.
‘They don’t feature the bees enough! It’s a very environmentally friendly programme because they’re feeding all these bees tons of cakes and sugar.
‘So it was fun, but I mean, I don’t know if I could do it again because I’m a little bit scared of the bees.’
