Kim Kardashian almost caused another Met Gala squabble when she revealed her intention to take Karl Lagerfeld’s cat as her date.
If you’ve been living under a very large rock, you’ll remember that the Skims designer drew a lot of flak for wearing Marilyn Monroe’s real gown to last year’s gala and was later forced to deny reports that she ruined the outfit.
This year’s ceremony was dedicated to the late Chanel designer, who died in 2019 at the age of 85.
Although the 43-year-old walked the red carpet in a pearl-covered Schiaparelli gown, accompanied by daughter North West, her original plan was a little more daring.
On the most recent episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, she confessed that she wanted to bring Choupette, the fashion icon’s cherished cat, along for the evening.
Yes, seriously.
Kim was photographed passing by a house in Paris during her ‘football mothers tour’ to see whether she ‘vibed’ with the cat so that her final look could be locked in.
‘Choupette is supposed to be my date for the Met,’ she said in a confessional. ‘I want to spend some time with her, get to know her, just see if we vibe.’
‘Is this cat going to like me? I’m nervous, I literally feel like I’m going on a blind date,’ she added to the camera.
Choupette spent the most of their time together hissing loudly in Kim’s direction, so she had every cause to be concerned.
There was a lot of uneasy laughing as the cat tried to bite the entrepreneur every time she approached for a stroking.
‘She’s not the biggest cuddler,’ the mom-of-four was warned by the cat’s agent as she sat nervously beside her.

You could say that again…
Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be, and there was no chance of the two connecting, so Kim had to make alternative preparations for the fancy red carpet.
‘I’m getting a little bit nervous and think I fully want to pivot,’ she added. ‘There’s so many factors that I think could be negative, especially with the cameras and the people. Even if she’s scared from the cameras and not me…
‘I don’t know if it’s fair to Choupette, so I think I realized really quickly that Choupette, we’re not a match. So I am not bringing her to the Met.’
Yeah, that’s probably best…
Choupette is one of the most renowned cats in the world, having accompanied Lagerfeld on almost all of his public appearances for years. The Birman cat was born on August 15, 2011 and rapidly became a fashion sensation in her own right.
Baptiste Giabiconi gave Lagerfeld the cat as a present after the model witnessed how quickly the two connected.
Speaking to CNN in 2013, Lagerfeld even claimed he would marry Choupette if he had the opportunity, stating: ‘There is no marriage, yet, for human people and animals. I never imagined falling in love with a cat in this way.’
Choupette was originally described by Lagerfeld as a ‘chic lady’ and a ‘kept woman’ since she had her own personal attendants.
Choupette has her own net worth, which Cats.com estimates at $13 million (£10.8 million), and it’s also thought she received a large portion of Lagerfeld’s $300 million (£248 million) wealth when he died.
The Kardashians airs on Hulu in the US and is available to stream on Disney+ in the UK.
