Susanna Reid of BBC Breakfast stole the programme on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg as she savagely attacked Baroness Michelle Mone over the Covid PPE contracts.
Susanna, 53, was questioned about the issue, and her articulate critique of the ‘profiteering’ struck viewers more than Laura’s interrogation, which some believed was weak.
‘I find it absolutely remarkable and why she hasn’t been transparent until this point,’ began the newscaster about the former Conservative peer.
Baroness Mone said she benefited from the contracts, which resulted in a profit of roughly £60 million, by being a beneficiary of financial trusts where the money is housed.
The 52-year-old had previously denied receiving any personal benefit from the PPE contracts distributed during the epidemic, yet she still saw no problem with her monetary gain.
After watching Laura, 47, interview Michelle, Susanna said: ‘She’s thinks she’s the victim because of the press intrusion.’
She continued: ‘It’s utterly remarkable that she doesn’t see how sensitive this issue is. PPE was so desperately needed that business people thought they could make tens of millions of pounds out of that desperation.’
Viewers thought Susanna’s analysis of the issue made her a better choice to host the Sunday morning programme.
‘Susanna should just claim Laura’s job she’d do much better,’ shared Dillon on X – formerly Twitter.
Another viewer, going by Friday’s Child on the social platform, added: ‘Thank you @susannareid100 Wish you’d done the interview instead.’
Luna agreed: ‘Susanna Reid is boss and should have interviewed Michelle Mone.’
‘Should’ve had both Laura and Susanna Reid asking questions. Bet I can guess who’d have given that plastic faced thief Mone a tougher time,’ concluded Malc.
Many viewers agreed with the former Strictly contestant, who believed Laura went too easy during the interview, which saw Michelle and husband Michael Mone refuse to accept blame.
Sundays with Laura Kuenssberg airs every Sunday at 9am on BBC One.
