HBO has released the complete teaser for The Idol, which promises a crazy experience for viewers.
The series, which premieres on Sunday, June 4, follows Tedros (The Weeknd), a self-help guru and head of a modern-day cult, who initiates a tumultuous relationship with rising pop sensation Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp).
The initial trailer promised ‘the sleaziest love tale in all of Hollywood,’ and teased: ‘That’s sex, that’s what we’re selling.’
And the most recent trailer showed it!
The new teaser begins with Jocelyn participating in a risqué photoshoot, as the figure played by Troye Sivan says, ‘When was the last truly-f***ing-nasty, terrible, awful pop-girl?’
The music singer is then spirited away to a party, where she first meets Tedros (Abel Tesfaye). Before the trailer depicts their romance blossoming, the two dance together.

The Idol’s official synopsis reads: ‘After a nervous breakdown derailed Jocelyn’s last tour, she’s determined to claim her rightful status as the greatest and sexiest pop star in America. Her passions are reignited by Tedros, a nightclub impresario with a sordid past. Will her romantic awakening take her to glorious new heights or the deepest and darkest depths of her soul?’
Publication The Rolling Stones claimed last month that the project was in ‘turmoil’ due to multiple script changes, the departure of director Amy Seimetz after the majority of the series had already been completed, and Levinson taking over and scrapping the ‘nearly-finished’ $54-75 (£45-62) million project to rewrite and reshoot the entire thing.
According to sources, when Levinson took control, he “dialled up the disturbing sexual content and nudity.”
The Save Your Tears hitmaker – actual name Abel Tesfaye – was also in the limelight for alleged on-set actions that led him to want to abandon the show’s “feminist lens.”
The Idol premieres on HBO on Sunday June 4.
